My journey into crab fishing began with a desire to change my life, to go beyond the ordinary and find a new direction in my career. Born and spending part of my life in Moldova, I, Alexei Matcovschii, could never have imagined that one day I would work on crab fishing vessels in Norway, sail the Barents Sea, and achieve significant success in this field. This path was full of challenges, difficulties, and victories. In this article, I will share my story - from the first steps to achieving success in one of the most challenging and interesting fishing fields in the world. 1. Finding a New Opportunity It all started with the search for a new life opportunity. Life in Moldova didn't offer many prospects for professional development, and I decided to find something more valuable and promising. One day, I came across stories about Norwegian crab fishermen who not only earn good money but also work in harsh and difficult conditions. This idea ignited a fire in me, and I realized this was my chance. 2. Preparing for a New Challenge My journey to Norway began with thorough preparation. To work on crab fishing vessels, it was necessary to take maritime safety courses, complete paperwork, and pass medical exams. I traveled to Romania, to the city of Constanța, to attend intensive safety courses for seafarers. The course lasted 10 days and included training in emergency situations, water rescue, and fire safety techniques. After successfully completing my training, I underwent a medical exam and, without wasting time, set off for Norway. My first days in this country were full of anticipation and excitement. I didn't have a clear plan or a job, but I was determined to make things happen. 3. First Steps on a Norwegian Vessel After a few weeks of searching, I found a job in a fish factory. This was the first step, but I realized that the real goal was to work on a crab fishing vessel. A few days later, I was offered a contract on a vessel, and my first journey began. The work was difficult and demanding. Every morning started early, and I worked long hours without breaks, facing the cold, storms, and physical fatigue. But every day was a lesson. I learned how to handle crab traps, use the equipment, and work as a team. Realizing that every catch depends on our teamwork strengthened the team spirit and motivation. 4. Challenges and Overcoming Obstacles Working in the Barents Sea presents many challenges. Cold winds, dangerous ice floes, and difficult working conditions became my daily challenge. Not everyone can endure such a pace, but the difficulties are what make us stronger. I learned how to cope with fatigue, stay focused, and make quick decisions in critical situations. The key element of success was team support. Working at sea is impossible without mutual help and trust. We shared everything: from difficulties to successes, from fatigue to joy for every successful catch. 5. Achieving Success Over time, I became more confident in my abilities, started suggesting improvements, and accepting new challenges. Working on a crab fishing vessel opened doors for career growth and development. I saw that hard work and determination can change lives, even when the path to a goal seems impossible.
